AI Apps for Image Generation
An AI RFP that led to a conundrum. Riddle me this Batman, what’s smart and shiny but lacks a marketing strategy.
The hour was midnight. I jumped on a call with a marketer traveling in Korea. We talked about an AI app that for some reason was not growing on Twitter, boggles the mind if you ask me. It’s seems like everything AI should be growing on Twitter, no?
Here’s the funny thing about AI… There’s a bunch of different platforms vying for attention right now. Many of which are either racing towards user adoption or quietly using data to get smarter.
So I got a little curious. How is AI image generation reaching the masses like you and me. Where does the tech come from and what apps are built on it.
So let’s go deep for a second.
Creating Images from Text
On January 25. 2021 Open AI introduced a neural network called DALL·E . The network uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) to generate images from text.
Fast forward to 2022 almost 2023 DALL·E 2 builds on its predecessor allowing users to create original images from text using NLP and allow those users make changes to those images using text as well. But Open AI is not the only player in town. Here are the top 3:
Dall•E 2 - Open AI
Midjourney - MidJourney
Stable Diffusion - Stability AI Labs
So far, I’ve spent a good bit of time using Dall•E 2 , Stable Diffusion, and Midjourney. Curiously, I also reached out to the top 3 AI image apps I enjoy to find out what APIs they are using. I’ll keep a list and update this as they respond.
AIBY
Lensa
Remini
These are just a few but there are hundreds of apps on the web that use some sort of AI image generation protocol.
The key is to categorize these apps into tools by function and cost. Remember this specific substack focuses on AI content hacks. In general, for the purpose of creative content creative you’ll have several classes of apps
Create - Uses a model requires user input
Edit or Revise - Uses a base or prebuilt prompts
Integrate - API driven; AI models improves the app’s functionality
This is of course, my classification. It helps me understand why I would need one app vs. the other. It might help you as well.
Let’s dig a little deeper now we’ll talk about the different ways to use each type off AI Image Generation App to streamline content production.
